Bourbon Street and French Quarter - WARNING!!!
nolahog For all you folks planning on going into the French Quarter on your bike, please be aware that for events like this in the past the NO Police Dept shows up in full force in the French Quarter. Be careful with the noise and pipes in the Quarter and leaving the Quarter. Folks that live down in the Quarter constantly complain to the elected officials about the noise those "bikers" make. NOPD WILL BE OUT IN FORCE writing tickets for noise. They will also take the opportunity to make sure you have a motorcycle endorsement, insurance and a brake tag. I received a brake tag ticket about 3 years ago and was just going to pay it figuring it was $35 or so.....called traffic court, the cost of the brake tag ticket $135 !!!!!! Just take it easy with the noise in the Quarter and we can all enjoy the festivities and avoid any problems. A little friendly advice from a local. 4/22/09 11:37 AM
BWNO Hi You are dead on about NOPD. They will be out in force and we want everyone to know that it is now illegal to have a bike in the French Quarter after midnight. We will have Ambassadors / Southern Comfort Girls down in the Quarter to help remind people. We are also getting special parking at Jax Brewery which is one block from the Quarter and we are trying to provide horse drawn wagons from the Broken Spoke to the Quarter. As for Colors, You are welcome to wear them on the street but not in the Broken Spoke. There is no ordinance that stops you from wearing them in the Quarter. Thanks and have a great time sorry it took so long to get you an answer. 4/22/09 2:22 PM
nolahog Sounds like you guys are aware of the Gotcha's with having these types of events in or near the Quarter. The only thing I question is the "it is now illegal to have a bike in the Quarter after midnight." Don't know when this happened but, I must have been breaking the law this past weekend. Went to Quarter on the bike and left at 2:30 AM. Course we were very "polite" when we were leaving. Easy on the noise and rapping pipes and everybody is pretty cool about the bikes. 4/22/09 2:28 PM
BWNO Hey NOLA - yes we are working hard to ensure everyone is aware of the Gotcha's As with any ordinance - it is subjective enforcement. In the end - they want thsi to a great event and become Mardi Gras for Bikers. But just needed everyone to know that it exists and that we are making easy and safe options to enjoy the Quarter. Thanks for your local knowledge and insight. And yep - if you were there at 2:30 a.m....... The ordinance has been around and is not new. If the bikers have a great time and the businsses do well and the residents are happy - then we all win. NOLA is a great town for a major bike week! 4/22/09 2:46 PM
